What we learned at In2Design Cork

In association with Irish Design 2015, the “In2Design, Cork” series took place over two weeks in April (Monday April 13th to Thursday April 23rd) at the Cork Institute of Technology. Some of Ireland’s top creative minds, ranging from an award winning Marvel Comics Illustrator, to the directors of Hozier’s wildly popular “Take me to Church” music video, shared a stage with each other to talk about their paths to success as well as looking at what common factors have helped to lead them to this point.

In each talk in this unique series, two outstanding experts from complimentary creative disciplines talked about their work, their experiences and their inspirations, as well as sharing their thoughts on Cork’s creative community and exploring common ingredients for success across each other’s disciplines.

Will Sliney (Comic Book Illustrator)

Photo of the Week Project

Well, I am now well over the half way mark in my Photo of the Week project for 2014. Though I did not take a new photo every week, I did find it take the majority of images over the course of the year. I’ve found the whole experience personally fulfilling and it’s great to share images with friends and hear their comments and reactions. In fact, it is often the images that I might not like that much myself that gain most attention with viewers. This year has been a pretty busy one for me and once I’m over the next couple of weeks, I hope to continue some other photo projects that I’ve had in the pipeline for a while now. I won’t give it all away now, but I can say that I’ll be publishing some photo essays and exhibiting in a location to be confirmed in the coming months. For more on the POTW project, go to the “My Work” section.

Mary Stanford’s Last Journey Home

Follow the famous boat’s final journey home to Ballycottton; her final resting place. This feature traces the boat’s last steps from Midleton to Ballycotton village. She now rests close to the entrance to the village of Ballycotton’s famous cliff walk.

The Mary Stanford, Ballycotton, was the first and is the only Lifeboat in RNLI history to have been awarded a gold medal for gallantry; the vessel as well as her brave crew were honored with this award for the famous Daunt Lightship rescue on 11th February 1936.

TEDx CIT Series

On September 6th 2012 CIT ran a TEDx event in the Curtis auditorium in the Cork School of Music. A great showcase of Cork’s talent in a number of disciplines.

Chris Moore and myself filmed the event; I did the post editing, titling etc..
